Chief Carriers are among the 18 division winners in the 46th annual TCA Fleet Safety Awards competition.
The Truckload Carriers Association awards identify truckload carriers that have demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to safety through presenting the lowest accident frequency ratios per million miles in each of six mileage-based divisions.
“The annual fleet safety awards are among the most prestigious in our industry. This award represents our relentless commitment to creating a strong and positive fleet safety culture that empowers our entire team to find safer outcomes for all stakeholders. We are honored to make the 2021 list of safest carriers in North America,” said General Manager, Andrew Winkler.
Chief Carriers might be small in size, but it remains large in its approach to drivers, landing among the top 20 fleets in North America in the annual Best Fleets to Drive For contest.

Truckload Carriers Association continues to show that prioritizing safety is the best business decision a carrier can make. Winkler says, “The TCA continues to bring outstanding programs and recognition that shine a bright light on North America’s very best truckload carriers and the people and communities they serve.”
Chief Carriers was recognized as the 3rd place winner Division II (5-14.99 million miles). This unique award measures safety in “accidents per miles driven”, and allows smaller fleets like Chief Carriers, to be measured against larger fleets in the industry. Chief Carriers will accept their award at Truckload 2022: Las Vegas in March.
Chief Carriers recently broke ground on a new 6,000-square-foot, two-bay securement building in Grand Island, Nebraska that will serve as a training center for student drivers and drivers in orientation. This is a significant investment in improving the quality of life and safety for our drivers by providing an indoor space to train and tie-down out of the weather elements. “Safety remains our number one priority,” said General Manager, Winkler.
Chief Carriers have a longstanding history of taking care of their drivers. Driving for Chief is more than just a paycheck. It includes providing their drivers with outstanding equipment, maintenance, and safety programs—because nothing is more important than getting their drivers home to their family safe and sound.
